Breaking News: Sigourney Weaver is a C**t
Sorry for the saucy language in the title folks but shit like this REALLY pisses me off. I must also apologize for the non-horror related posting. This is taken from thesuperficial.com (see posting here) and I’m just gonna let this one speak for itself and comment on it at the end:
Sigourney Weaver must’ve remembered she’s old and can say whatever the hell she wants now because she’s openly attacked Oscar voters for choosing The Hurt Locker over Avatar: [...]
“Jim didn’t have breasts, and I think that was the reason,” Weaver told Brazilian news site Folha Online over the weekend. “He should have taken home that Oscar.”
In a stunning rebuke hinting at frustration in the “Avatar” camp — who applauded gracefully when “The Hurt Locker” also took the Best Picture Oscar — Weaver added, “In the past, ‘Avatar’ would have won because they [Oscar voters] loved to hand out awards to big productions, like ‘Ben-Hur.’ Today it’s fashionable to give the Oscar to a small movie that nobody saw.”
Well I can tell you that I saw both Avatar and The Hurt Locker (yeah; I watch some movies that aren’t horror … shut up) and can tell you that Hurt Locker is superior to Avatar. I never wrote a full review of Avatar but you can see my comments here. These comments were written literally 20 minutes after I saw the movie. Forget about the visual f/x in Avatar; plot-wise it’s a collection of about 10 other movies (all of them better than Avatar) and doesn’t have an original bone in its body. Not to mention that its boring. Yes, boring. You can forgive a movie for a lot of sins, but if its boring there’s not much you can do about it.
Let’s talk director’s: Kathryn Bigelow is 100x’s more the director Cameron is. Sure he’s given us the Terminator flicks, The Abyss, and Aliens. They’re all good movies that I could see a dozen different people direct just as well. Cameron isn’t a “director” anymore; he’s basically an IT guy who is pushing the limits of technology in movies, and I applaud him for that. But when you start not giving a fuck about plot and character development and focus all your resources on the visuals, well then you’ve lost the notion of what a “director” is: A director cares about all the facets of moviemaking…not just the technology.
And Sigourney; keep you’re wrinkled, sun-fucked onion-looking, has-been face shut!! What did you think, you were gonna get an Oscar for your performance in Avatar?? You probably saw this as you last chance to be part of something big, and now your big mouth is (hopefully) gonna screw the rest of your “career”. I don’t believe for a second Weaver saw The Hurt Locker. If she did she would’ve never made such stupid comments. And if she DID she Hurt Locker than she’s dumber than I thought.
What do you think about Sigourney Weaver’s comments? i’ve been a fan of Kathryn Bigelow since her vampire flick Near Dark (1987). I use to be a fan of Weaver and her strong female roles in horror flicks. Again, what do you think?

[...] Weaver’s comments about THE HURT LOCKER affectionately titled SIGOURNEY WEAVER IS A C**T (see it here). Now James Cameron feels it necessary to put in his 2 cents about the recent use of 3D in horror [...]

Thank you…
This woman is bullshit.
But you watch less movies of other genre? I watch equal no. of movies of all genre, it’s just horror movies are my favorite.
Putting all that aside, as much as I loved both the movies I’ll say none of them deserved to win over Inglorious Basterds and Up In The Air. Or even, District 9. These 3 movies were just better.
Honestly Ifaz, I rarely watch anything thats not in the horror genre. My wife is a wonderful and patient woman!!! I liked District 9 but don’t think it deserves a “Best Picture” award…. best actor HELL YEAH!!
I don’t really care about the Oscars or any other way Hollywood chooses to reward its already over sized ego. I never saw Hurt Locker; I did see Avatar. Avatar was a great movie. Did it deserve an award? Maybe, I don’t know… I kind of doubt care. It’s was a good *movie*, emphasis on movie, as in get over yourself; it’s done. The amount of fan hype… people wanting to living on Pandora, people seeing the movie over and over again because they want to be an Avatar… creepy, but fans excel at creepy flattery. Weaver and company should be flattered more by fan devotion than a stupid Oscar if you ask me.
And that’s all I’m going to say.
I’m with ya on the Oscars Candace!!! I haven’t watched them nor cared about them for at least 20 years. And I gotta disagree about Avatar; I can’t remember the last time I was so bored in a movie. The movie was made to highlight the f/x and not the other way around. I really hated it
But I agree; the cast and crew of Avatar should be happy they are a “phenomena” and not give a shit about some stupid Oscar!!
Maybe they should create a category for best use of technology? Or do they already have one?
I liked Avatar for the environmental message and the 3D effects. For those reasons, I think it was great. I’m not saying the movie was perfect or that Weaver is right in her petty tirade, but the planet and the actions of the big corporation were believable even if the action was sometimes not. lol Since I hate big corporations with an absolute passion and advocate environmental issues as a rule, it was a fun move to watch “nature” win. To my mind, the “Mother” was the best character in the film! heh
Now compare this to Weaver’s other flicks, most notably the Alien franchise, and Avatar doesn’t hold a candle to them. Visually stunning does not equal best picture; it just means what it sounds like. There were really no surprises in Avatar. The acting was okay. Only someone who has a thing for nature (like myself) is going to see Avatar and cry (yeah I did) over the symbolic rape of the Natural world. Best line in the movie IMO was that we had killed our mother and if we get out into space and start doing what the company was doing on Pandora, then we deserve to get our asses handed to us. Personally I wouldn’t have cared if all the human characters were slaughtered in a good old fashioned native uprising! That’s just how ‘not interested’ I was in their story. When the whole planet turned against the human invaders, then I got excited. Yay! Mom kicks ass!
I’m down for getting a message in a movie, but Avatar just hits you over the head with it over and over and over and over again to the point where I was like, “enough Cameron … we get it …. humans = bad; aliens & nature = good”. There just wasn’t any depth to the message and the characters were all so black and white: you were either good or you were bad. Where’s the fun conflict in that?
And the scene where the evil old humans destroyed the tree was the best scene in the flick … had the most impact and was extremely effective!!
Fucking potatoes in Ireland. Hilarious. Thanks for making me spray ice tea all over my keyboard.
Hope your keyboard isn’t ruined!!! I hate nothing more than hollywood sour grapes; especially from some washed-up hag!!
I love most of Weaver’s professional work but these comments are just stupid. I’ve got a pot of reality java brewin’ Sigourney, wake up and smell it! “Hurt Locker” = Substance & Avatar = Spectacle, scoreboard “Hurt Locker”. Now I may also be a bit biased as a veteran but any war movie that is 70% accurate in its portrayal of the human condition, horror, and tension of war as “Hurt Locker” did is one hell of an accomplishment by any director regardless of race, creed, color, or gender! Thank you “Hurt Locker” for telling an important and compelling story and Thank you “Avatar” for streching the bounds of movie f/x technology!
Well put Bill….. very well put!! Weaver’s comments are absolutely stupid. As you know, I’m not a vet nor have I ever served (and thank you Bill for serving!!!) but when I was watching The Hurt Locker I felt I was watching something very authentic. It’s an amazing film all around. I don’t watch too many non-genre flicks so I wanna make sure I see a good one…. that’s why I watched Hurt Locker. I’m glad I did. It was a story that needed to be made and needs to be watched.
Stop being retarded Weaver and shut your mouth, stupid!!!
