New Horror Movie Updates: Rob Zombie Announces Next Film; Two Killer Santa Flicks Coming Our Way; Kingdom of the Spiders Remake in 3D; & Pascal Laugier’s New Project Begins Filming
After making us wait and speculate for a while, Rob Zombie has finally announced his next film project. No it’s not T-REX or THE BLOB remake or even a prequel to HOUSE OF A 1,000 CORPSES. So what is his new project? According to Deadline, Zombie’s next film will be THE LORDS OF SALEM and will be
put together by Haunted Films, the company run by the Paranormal Activity team of Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Oren Peli.
So what’s this new project about?
The thriller is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour circuit, and will shoot next year.
And even more interesting is why Zombie is going with Haunted Films. It seems they are giving him pretty much total control over this project. According to Zombie he’s getting “total control” over the script, the casting, and the final edit. I’m excited about this project, which he’ll finish writing on the last leg of his concert tour and begin shooting next year. It’s no secret that I’m a huge Rob Zombie fan and think he’s got a great vision and is extremely talented behind he camera. Now that he has so much control over this project (final edit is HUGE) I can’t wait to see what he does!!
TWO KILLER SANTA FLICKS COMING TO TOWN:
That’s right folks. We have not 1 but 2, count ‘em TWO, crazy Santa films coming our way. The first is called RARE EXPORTS and comes to us from Finland. So what’s this one about? In a nutshell its about hunting down feral santa’s in the wilds of Finland. Take a second and read that last sentence over again. Holy shit I hope this one lives up to its description:
In the depths of the Korvatunturi mountains, 486 metres deep, lies the closest ever guarded secret of Christmas. The time has come to dig it up!
And the film’s tagline is, “This Christmas Everyone Will Believe in Santa Clause.” I’m trying not to get my hopes up but this one sounds really fucking fun!! Check out their Facebook page here.
The other killer Santa flick, SINT, is coming our way from the Netherlands and is more on the legend of Saint Nick than the Western Santa Claus. In SINT St. Nick is a cruel, bloodthirsty Bishop who goes on a killing spree whenever there’s a full moon on December 5th. Here’s the longer description on their webite (click here):
St. Niklas, a bishop fallen out of grace, travels in the middle ages with his gang of robbers and thieves through the countryside, raping, plundering and killing. When villagers take the law into their own hands and murder the bloodthirsty bishop and his thugs by setting the ship on which they travel ablaze, Niklas vows revenge.
Now every time there is a full moon on december 5, the date he died, something that on average takes place every 36 years, St. Niklas and his helpers will rise from the dead and take revenge in a horrible way.
The story takes place in Amsterdam, Holland, on a misty and snowy december night.
Frank, a nice boy of 17, is, together with some friends, confronted on that dreadful night, by Niklas and his helpers. He is the only one who manages to escape death. All of his friends are murdered. The police doesn’t believe his story and arrest him as the main suspect.
When Frank is driven to prison, the police car gets involved in a chase with Niklas, who tries to escape on his fiery white horse over the roofs of the Amsterdam canal houses.
Frank manages to escape from the police and Niklas, and teams up with Goert, a suspended detective.
Goert was suspended because he had unraveled the Niklas mystery and had warned that he would strike again this year. No one of course believed him and everyone thought he was going crazy.
Frank and Goert team up to confront Niklas. In Goert’s mind there is only one solution to get rid of Niklas: Blowing up his boat that must be moored in a remote part of the Amsterdam Harbor…
This sounds pretty damn fun. I just hope we don’t have to wait too long for this one to hit the U.S. I’ve always said the Halloween season needs to be extended and these 2 killer Santa flicks look like the answer to my wishes.
Here’s the trailer for RARE EXPORTS:
… and SINT:
I know the SINT trailer isn’t in English but you get the idea!! I can’t wait.
KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS REMAKE IN 3D CREEPING TO US:
One of my fondest horror memories from my youth is when I stumbled upon William Shatner fighting off hordes of deadly spiders in 1977‘s KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS. I caught it on the Prism pay channel back in the day (Prism no longer even exists) and was really creeped out by it. I’ll never forget that final scene of Shatner waking up and walking through the infested town which was completely encased in spider webs. Great stuff. According to screendaily.com:
Nuala Barton and Rene Sheridan are producing the update of the 1977 cult classic. The plot is about a small town infested with spiders.
Producers Nuala Barton and Rene Sheridan commented: “We are delighted to be working with Stealth Media’s Jason Piette, Sean O’Kelly and Michael Cowan to bring this cult classic back to larger than life, in 3D.”
So there’s not much news about this project yet and there certainly are no new plot summaries or casting news to report, but I’m just happy this one’s being remade. I think this one is a great candidate for an update. I’ll keep ya posted.
PASCAL LAUGIER’S NEW PROJECT STARTS FILMING:
What’s that? You don’t know who Pascal Laugier is? Well shame on you and what fucking rock have you been living under? Laugier is the writer-director of the best genr movie to come out in the past decade, MARTYRS. If you haven’t seen it yet, what the fuck are you waiting for??
Well Laugier is back and he’s back with his English language debut titled THE TALL MAN. I know it sounds as though Angus Scrimm should be starring, but check out the plot summary:
Set in the town of Cold Rock, THE TALL MAN is a story of the haunting secrets that hide behind closed doors. With children gone missing over the years, leaving neither a clue nor a witness, superstitious locals talk of ‘The Tall Man,’ a legendary, mysterious dark figure who takes children away never to be seen again. When a woman’s son is taken, the chase is on and with it the quest for answers: Who is the Tall Man, and what happens to the children?
And if I know Laugier this is gonna be one dark and gloomy flick. And the cast, headed up by Stephen McHattie (PONTYPOOL, THE WATCHMEN), William B. Davis (the “Cancer Man” from the X-FILES) and Jessica Biel (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake), is as impressive as the director. I’m really looking forward to this one and will be keeping a close eye on this one!!
