Here We Go Again: A&E Developing ‘Psycho’ Prequel Series

God forbid there’s a classic genre film out there that DOESN’T get raped!!  According to deadline.com, A&E is developing a series based around when Norman Bates was growing up.  The project is called BATES MOTEL and is being labeled a “drama”.  They don’t even have the balls to call it a ‘horror’ project!!  The show is being written by Anthony Cipriano for Universal TV.  The series is going to explore:

Norman Bates’ dark, twisted backstory from childhood through his teen years and will chronicle how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping  shape the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history.

These prequel/backstories always seem to work out so well; this should be fantastic (please note the extreme sarcasm).

This just in … A&E is also developing a series exploring the backstory of the shark from JAWS and why it became a killing machine.  The story will examine how divers killed the shark’s parents and how this led to a life of hating human beings.

(For the record, the PSYCHO story is true; the JAWS story is fake, I’m just saying).

Stay Bloody!!!

  1. I laughed my ass off as I read this piece… very, very funny!! Okay I know there will be some that will think I’m nuts, crazy… whatever but It might work… Psycho as a series… IF ONLY… if only it was HBO was doing it.

  2. This sounds like they want to do something akin to AMERICAN HORROR STORY, and maybe get someone like Jessica Lange in as his mother, and probably mix in a little supernatural bullshit into Norman’s origins. And in the style of all hacks who do prequels to classic stories, they’ll throw in just about every aspect of Norman Bates you never wanted to know about will be shown, throw in some meta-references, and then go jerk off over the thought of how clever they are…
