Will Smith to Make Another I Am Legend … Oh Joy

Yes, that headline should be read as containing a lot of sarcasm.  I wasn’t a fan of the 2007 I AM LEGEND adaptation.  There were some good scenes of an empty downtown Manhattan, but the story was very lazy, there were no scares, and the creatures were such shitty CGI creations that even the SyFy channel wouldn’t have used them.  But according to deadline.com:

Warner Bros has closed deals with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to produce another installment of I Am Legend, the 2007 hit film. The intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on Earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population.

Over the last few years we’ve heard rumors and rumblings that a prequel was being planned detailing how the virus was made, released, and how the end of the world came about, but Warner Bros isn’t confirming nor denying that the second film is going to be a prequel.  Will Smith isn’t committing to the project until after the script is written.  If this isn’t a sequel then I guess we’re gonna get a re-write of the first film because, if you remember, Will Smith’s character dies at the end!!  But this is Hollywood we’re talking about.  They can kill off and resurrect any characters they want.  Hell; Ripley from the ALIEN franchise has been alive in some form for about 57,000 years!!  Warner Bros is also writing a sequel/follow-up for 300, another film where the entree cast pretty much died!!

What do you think?  Looking forward to another installment of I AM LEGEND?

Stay Bloody!!!

  1. Katie says:

Sometimes a film should stand alone no matter how popular or how good it is. Can you imagine if they tried to do another Inception? It just wouldn’t work. Sometimes the art of making a movie speaks louder if it is left alone and not beaten to death.

  2. It was an interesting movie, but I doubt it needs a sequal. Unless Smith is unrecognizeable from the burns I doubt I’m gonna buy the resurrection premise.
