X-Files Writer-Producer, Frank Spotnitz, Wants Another X-Files Movie!!
THE X-FILES. This just wasn’t the show that ignited a renewed interest in the sci-fi genre, it was an extremely influential show that helped pave the way for BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL, and even SUPERNATURAL. THE X-FILES was an extremely intelligent show that made conspiracies and big government cover-ups seem not only plausible, but likely. Great characters, great plots, and great dialogue are present in practically every episode.
And then there’s THE X-FILES movies. What the fuck happened with the movies?? Granted the first X-FILES flick, THE X-FILES: FIGHT THE FUTURE (1998), was a bridge between seasons and was difficult to get into unless you followed the TV series. But still; compared to the TV series this film wasn’t that good. I was expecting to be blown away by this film. My thinking was if the TV show is awesome then the movie is gonna be fucking A M A Z I N G!! What we got was a long TV show that we had to pay theater prices to go see. It was disappointing.
And then there’s the 2008 debacle, THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE. Are you kidding me?? Really? I waited that long for another X-FILES flick and that’s the best storyline they could come up with. I don’t wanna talk about THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE anymore … I’m starting to get pissed off.
My point is the TV show was friggin’ amazing and the films blow dog. Period. But in a recent interview with screendaily.com, X-FILES writer-producer Frank Spotnitz says he wants to do another film:
“There is a very active and relentless fan campaign for a last movie. I do feel like it would be a terrible shame if that didn’t happen. It feels wrong not to give it an ending around the alien colonisation of earth. David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] feel the same. I have a clear idea of how it would go and I’ve been talking to Chris Carter about it for a long time. I’ll keep banging the drum whenever I meet the Fox guys.“
I would love nothing more than to see a new X-FILES film, so long as it kicks ass and doesn’t blow the aforementioned dog’s dick. I was a huge X-FILES fan and at one point had every episode on VHS (yeah I know; shut up). There’s nothing I’d like better than to finally see a kick-ass X-FILES movie. I think it’s safe to say all the old X-FILES fans everywhere feel the same way.
What do you think? Are you into seeing another X-FILES flick as long as it kicks ass?
