Jerry O’Connell To Play Herman Munster In NBC’s Reboot
Wow. I think this title says it all. According to Deadline.com, Jerry O’Connell will indeed be playing the role of Herman Munster in the upcoming NBC reboot of THE MUNSTER’S. Now I’m not gonna sit here and bash Jerry O’Connell. I’m a fan of O’Connell’s and I’ve always liked his films and TV work. He seems like a genuine guy and always comes across on screen as a nice guy. Here I’m blaming the people in charge of the casting. O’Connell as Herman Munster? Really!!?! Did they even give this decision a second thought? When news first broke that NBC was doing a reboot of THE MUNSTER’S titled. MOCKINGBIRD LANE, I immediately thought they’d eventually come around to getting Brad Garrett to play the Munster patriarch. You know Brad Garrett; he played Ray Romano’s brother in EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. Now that’d be perfect casting!!
O’Connell is already joining Eddie Izzard, playing the role of “Grandpa,” and Charity Wakefield, who’s playing the Munsters’ plain and ‘normal’ cousin. Here’s how Deadline.com describes the plot:
O’Connell will play the family patriarch, the handsome and gangly Herman Munster, a great dad and a devoted husband. He is married to Lily, a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Strong but sentimental, Herman works at a funeral home and worries that Eddie’s transformation into a werewolf and burgeoning awareness of his family’s origins will crush the boy’s spirit.
Wait wait wait … O’Connell’s “Herman” is gonna be ‘handsome’?? Well this pretty much says it all. Look; I can understand that you have some new brilliant angle you wanna take THE MUNSTER’S, but the fact of the matter is that you’re not gonna be able to do anything new and different with the basic premise. I don’t care what you call it, THE MUNSTER’S is and can only ever be THE MUNSTER’S!! What do you think of this casting news? Total disaster waiting to happen, or do you think O’Connell can pull it off?
Stay Bloody!!!

If this were any more of a car crash, Elton John would be writing the song for the charity single…
No shit!! From the first news item released on this one it sounded like a disaster!!
The thing is, even if it turns out to be not as bad as we think it will be, the critics will savage it. I feel sorry for the cast…
Agreed. It’s not gonna be the cast’s fault… I have the feeling the script is gonna suck out loud.
