First Look at David Morrissey as “The Governor” in The Walking Dead
David Morrissey is a good actor. No; he’s a great actor. I’m not contesting or bringing up Morrissey’s ability to PLAY the role of “The Governor” in season three of THE WALKING DEAD. What I’m worried about is how he looks!! Faithful readers of the source comic book could at this very moment describe the way “The Governor” looks in the comic book in every detail. That sleazy, psychotic character is ingrained in our minds and even if we wanted to we’d never be able to get his image out of our head. That’s why I’m a little surprised by the first picture released of Morrissey as “The Governor.” Check it out:
Not anything like the comic or what we’ve been expecting, eh!! Sure he’s a great actor, but what about some like Danny Trejo or even Tom Savini as “The Governor” (think about Savini; he totally has the look but maybe not the acting chops). The image comes from TV Guide who recently sat down with creator Robert Kirkman, who had this to say:
“Seeing The Walking Dead come to life on AMC has been a real thrill for me, obviously, and moving into Season 3, I’m even more excited than ever because now I feel like we’re really getting to ‘the good stuff. Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exiting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks!
Worried that AMC might be planning on pussing out on their version of “The Governor,” especially when it comes to his and Rick’s confrontation? Well fear not!
“The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic,” Kirkman said. “I think that he’s definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by but also somewhat terrified of. He’s definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down.“
Time will tell!! What do you think of Morrissey as “The Governor”??
