More Monsters Coming from a Dark Continent

This is about as scary as MONSTERS was … seriously.

Did you enjoy Gareth Edwards’ flick, MONSTERS (my review)? As a giant monster flick, I hated it … really hated it. But the film is well-acted and directed with some nice set pieces but still, the most violent the giant monsters got was when they hugged each other. Seriously. Well another flick is on the way to expand upon the world laid out by Edwards, and hopefully the follow up will go into a darker territory.

According to screendaily.com, Tom Green (MISFITS) will be helming the newly titled film, MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT. Previously, Brent Bonacorso and Jesse Atlas were originally attached to direct the sequel. Nothing definite as to why they were either dropped or bailed on the project themselves. Jay Basu wrote the screenplay for Vertigo. The original plot crunch is very vague:

The tale is set in a walled city, as a “Heart of Darkness” story about two brothers finding each other in a world of monsters. The variety of aliens will differ in the next installment.

… this is scarier than MONSTERS.

So they’re taking the very overused staple zombie story and adding in monsters to it? Sounds delightful. Maybe we’ll get to see the aliens give each other a reach around or even a Cleveland Steamer in the sequel!! Maybe???

Stay Bloody!!!
