First Stills Released from the Upcoming Backmask
By now you probably realize I have mixed feelings about director Marcus Nispel … very mixed feelings. On the one hand he did a great job with the 2003 remake of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, but on the flip side of that coin he made the 2009 FRIDAY THE 13TH remake (god that was a shit movie!!). Well Nispel and the marketing department have just released the first couple stills from his upcoming BACKMASK, about six small-town teenagers who unleash a malevolent spirit when they find an old record and play it backwards. The film is directed, of course, by Nispel and written by Kirsten Elms and stars Brittany Curran, Gage Golightly, Stephen Lang, Kelly Blatz, Brett Dier, Nick Nicotera, Nick Nordella, and Michael Ormsby. Here’s the plot crunch:
During a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vintage record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages. Lo and behold, a seemingly malevolent spirit quickly infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to another. Eventually, however, it’s revealed that the spirit in question is actually trying to convey a message….and that the real source of horror isn’t particularly paranormal, but rather something (or someone) much closer to home.
Check out the two stills below, and I’m staying positive about this one (even though it sounds awfully familiar to a project Robert (LAID TO REST) Hall was going to do a couple years ago. But how can ya not like playing records backwards as the main plot point??
Stay Bloody!!!
