Creatures Revealed in the Upcoming Indie Horror Film, Rites of Spring
RITES OF SPRING is an upcoming indie horror film that I’ve been looking forward to for some time now. RITES OF SPRING is written and directed by Padraig Reynolds and stars Katherine Randolph, Anessa Ramsey, AJ Bowen, Hannah Bryan, and Shanna Forrestall. The film is one of those fun-sounding mishmash movies like FROM DUSK TILL DAWN that stars out in one direction (in this case as a kidnapping flick) and then suddenly goes off in a totally different direction (this becomes a creature feature). Here’s the plot crunch:
A group of kidnappers abduct the daughter of a wealthy socialite and hide out in an abandoned school in the middle of the woods. But feelings of guilt soon overtake the kidnappers, dividing the group and putting their entire plan in jeopardy. The evening further spirals out of control when their poorly chosen hideout becomes a hunting ground for a mysterious creature that requires springtime ritualistic sacrifices.
IFC Midnight is handling the North American distribution and is releasing RITES OF SPRING on cable VOD and Digital Outlets (SundanceNOW, iTunes, Amazon Streaming, XBOX Zune, Playstation Unlimited) and in the theaters on July 27, 2012.
