Horror Icon Kane Hodder Joins the Cast of Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon

2006′s BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON was a huge breath of fresh air for the genre. In this film we got to take a peek behind the making of a serial killer and get into Leslie Vernon’s head. My only complaint with that film is that there wasn’t nearly enough gore and violence (that was it’s only shortcoming). But for the last few years the filmmakers have been raising money and interest to make the next film in the series, BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON, and not to long ago we got some pretty exciting news. On their official Facebook page, the news broke that horror icon and fellow serial killer, Kane Hodder, would be joining the cast. Here’s the announcement that was made on their Facebook page:

KANE HODDER HAS JOINED THE CAST!!!

We’re so excited to announce the addition of Kane Hodder to the B4TM family. As you know, Kane showed up for a brief cameo in BEHIND THE MASK. He’s been a fan ever since:

Kane:

“I was happy to be a part of the first film. Had no idea what, exactly, I was getting myself into. But, Robert (Englund) asked me to do a favor and show up in front of the Elm Street house for a cameo, so I did it. In retrospect, I’m so happy to have been a part of such an intelligent, clever Valentine to horror fans. I’ve been shouting the praises of Scott’s movie for several years now and I’m excited to be offered a more substantial role in the next one. It’s really important that we support indie horror and I can’t think of a bigger statement we’d all be making than getting this project fan-funded through Kickstarter. That would definitely send a message to Hollywood.”

And here’s a word from director Scott Glosserman:

We need to raise $450,000 by August 9th,” says Glosserman, “As of today we are 15% of the way there, having raised just over $70,000. I’m pulling out all stops. I’m releasing never-berfore-seen footage, scenes, and stills at milestones along the way. Our fans have been tremendous about spreading the word, but we aren’t going to meet our goal without some help from the fans.”

“The item I want to stress the most, however, is our Supporter’s Edition DVD that’s limited (signed and numbered) only to the amount of people who pre-order it. The DVD is going to include an actual frame(s) of the film, itself. I intend to cut it up and share it with everyone who pre-ordered, because it belongs to everyone, after all.”

This is definitely a worthy cause for what promises to be a great film. And remember, Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, starred in the first film, and if he comes back then we’re gonna have Jason and Freddy back together in another film. Pretty exciting stuff!!

Funding Unsuccessful. That seems like a shame. I was gonna put it, a Supporter’s Edition DVD sounds ace, but unfortunately I seem to have gotten there to late. I absolutely loved the first one and was really looking forward to this… is there any hope for this film?
