New Update from Rob Zombie on The Lords of Salem
For a while there we were getting a shit ton of updates on Rob Zombie’s newest flick, THE LORDS OF SALEM. It seemed every week (sometimes twice in one week) we got new stills, updates, and casting news. Then everything went black for a while. This is simply due to the fact that Zombie is still a musician and is touring with his band, WHITE ZOMBIE. That’s all good, but as horror fans we wanna know, “When the fuck is THE LORDS OF SALEM” gonna be completed??

Artistdirect.com caught up with Zombie and asked him precisely the same thing. Here’s his response:
“I’m in the final stages of finishing the film. By the end of August, we’ll be done. The sound designers are still creating some of the sound effects for the movie. Once they’re done, I’ll go into the mix stage in August and mix the final sound for the movie. Then, I’ll be done,” Zombie explains.
“This movie is definitely a slow psychological burn…It’s a weird movie,” Zombie continues. “When you watch it, it seems like there’s not a lot happening for a while. However, what’s happening is you’re starting to get sucked into the pace of the movie though. It’s a very strange movie. I wanted to go against a lot of the conventions that I’ve seen in what are considered horror movies. There are certain things that always happen. I wanted to break away from them. It’s a more psychological movie. Lots of little crazy things happen all the way through it. There’s not one particular thing where you’re flying out of your seat. The way it unfolds is like Chinese water torture dripping on you.”
Sweet. Seriously; sweet. Zombie is an artist that isn’t afraid to take chances. Sometimes he falls flat on his face, but even with his less-than-successful projects, Zombie has been growing as an artist. I love Zombie’s eye as a director and what he gives us in his films. THE LORDS OF SALEM is one of my most anticipated films of the year (I hope we get to see it this year!!).

I didn’t really like HOUSE OF A 1000 CORPSES or DEVILS REJECTS. They seemed to be very weird without actually having any kind of focus. They defiantly weren’t bad movies, they just weren’t my personal cup of tea. His Halloween series on the other hand… well I’ve gone on and on about how much I love those movies so I won’t do it again here, but I will say that I really thought that Zombie found his stride in those film. They were surreal whilst still maintaining a tight focus. They were that rarest of rare things a perfect pair of films (please, please, please let Halloween 3 fall flat on it fact and NOT get made!!!). Whilst it would have been interesting to see Zombie’s rendition of THE BLOB, I can understand complacently why he didn’t want to continue with that project. More over I think it will be really good to see a complacently original project that he’s working on. With no plot constraints can Zombie continue with the creative momentum he build up in his Halloween series? I’m really looking forward to finding out
