Warner Bros. to Resurrect Godzilla in 2014
That’s right, everyone’s favorite fire-breathing, Asian-stomping giant lizard is getting a make over and returning to the big screen in 2014, according to The Wrap. The news broke earlier today that Warner Bros.’ take on the iconic GODZILLA will be released May 16, 2014 and is expected to be in 3D (real shocker there):
A press release issued by Warner Bros. and Legendary said that the project, which falls under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros., “will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner.”
And now for some bad news and good news: The bad news is that Gareth Edwards, director of the extremely boring 2010 flick MONSTERS (my review), is set to direct. Yikes. This could mean that GODZILLA is gonna be turned into a misunderstood monster who’s in love with another monster (yeah; MONSTERS sucked). But the good news is that the script os written by David Callaham (THE EXPENDABLES), David S. Goyer (the DARK KNIGHT trilogy) and Max Borenstein. So we have a solid writing team and a director who’s previous “monster” film was a fucking bore. This one could go either way. But goddamn I’d really love to see a new, updated GODZILLA flick full of destruction and mayhem!!
GODZILLA is tentatively set for a May 16, 2014 release.
Stay Bloody!!!
