James Cameron Would’ve Gone “Further” with Jurassic Park
I like JURASSIC PARK. I don’t love it, but it’s a fun popcorn flick. Do you ever wonder what this film would’ve been like in the hands of a different director? Well in a recent interview with The Huffington Post, director James Cameron revealed that he wanted JURASSIC PARK but Spielberg beat him to it:
“I tried to buy the book rights and he beat me to it by a few hours,” Cameron revealed … “But when I saw the film, I realised that I was not the right person to make the film, [Spielberg] was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been aliens with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair.
“Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded for that. His sensibility was right for that film, I’d have gone further, nastier, much nastier.”
I know I’ve been hard on Cameron lately. AVATAR is crap. I don’t appreciate any film that champions technology over substance (characters and plot). But just imagine the Cameron who directed THE TERMINATOR and ALIENS making a “nastier” JURASSIC PARK. That would’ve been cool. Oh well.
JURASSIC PARK 4 Update:
Universal has set Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (the duo behind THE RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES flick) to write the script for the fourth JURASSIC PARK film, which will be produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy. Spielberg won’t direct. More on this one as the info becomes available.
Stay Bloody!!!
