Hold onto Your Crucifixes … The Vatican Doesn’t Like Prometheus!!

Prometheus banner

The Vatican, through it’s official newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, attacked Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS.  Apparently The Vatican doesn’t like the film’s premise about the origins of human beings and said it’s “a bad idea to defy the gods.”  According to The Hollywood Reporter:

L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican’s official newspaper, said Prometheus “mishandles the delicate questions raised by … the battle eternal between good and evil in yet another attempt to steak the secret of immortality.” The newspaper also said that “the journey of Prometheus should instead symbolize the search for the supernatural,” referring to the original hero of Greek mythology who is said to have created man from clay.

Scott — who has earned best director Oscar nominations for Thelma & Louise, Gladiator and Black Hawk Down – may be best known for sci-fi thriller Alien and 1982’s Blade Runner, whose interpretation of what could be seen as a post-apocalyptic future, also turned heads at the Vatican at that time.

PROMETHEUS just opened in Italy on September 12, 2012 and almost immediately The Vatican jumped on it’s ass.  The film, though, did well it’s opening weekend taking in the equivalent of $1.3 million.  It’s nice to know that with all the troubles around the world, The Vatican is focused on Hollywood films!!  This isn’t the first time:

The Vatican, which is a spiritual touchstone for the world’s 1.1 billion Catholics, has not been shy about criticizing films it believes include an un-Christian take on Christian issues, such as James Cameron’s Avatar and The Da Vinci Code, based on the Dan Brown book of the same name and directed by Ron HowardThe language used to criticize Prometheus was more mild than that used in attacking Avatar and The Da Vinci Code

It’s so important to have one’s priorities set!!  Maybe I can help clear some things up for The Vatican:  The above examples are Hollywood fucking movies!!  They are fictional and no one believes them to be The Truth!!  Besides, the plots of those stories are way more bizarre and unbelievable than a carpenter who was born via a virgin birth and who’s dad was god who arose from the dead and disappeared and will return to bring the end of the world.  That’s WAY more believable!!

Stay Bloody!!!
