Official Red Band Trailer for Evil Dead Remake Drops
Gotta admit that this one kinda snuck up on me. I wasn’t expecting to see the red band trailer for the EVIL DEAD remake for a few more months, but the producers/filmmakers have cranked one out. And I must say that I’m torn. The trailer looks fantastic. Some great shots, great gore, and it even looks as though they’re going to recreate the tree-raping scene from the original. It’s a lot better looking than I thought … but. Yeah, there’s always a big but!! There’s two words that still scare me about this remake. Diablo. Cody. Gore is great and all, but if the dialogue is insufferable, then what’s the point? I know I’ve been hard on this one, but I’m big enough to admit that this one has me intrigued.
The EVIL DEAD remake is directed by Fede Alvarez, written by Alvarez, Rodo Sayagues Mendez, Sam Raimi, and Diablo Cody, and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, and Jessica Lucas. Check out the plot crunch:
Shiloh Fernandez landing the male lead role in the new Evil Dead. He’ll be playing the part of David, a young man who attempts to wean his sister Mia (Jane Levy) off her drug habit, in the aftermath of their mother’s death. David assembles a team of friends to accompany him and Mia on an intervention retreat, at an old cabin in the woods. Once there, everything seems to be going according to plan
– that is, until one of David’s pals starts messing around with the Necronomicon (a.k.a. the Book of the Dead)…
Enough … here’s the official red band trailer for the EVIL DEAD remake, and enjoy some stills from the remake as well:
What do you think? Has it changed your mind at all (don’t misunderstand me … this is still an unnecessary remake, but does the trailer make you a little more curious)?
Stay Bloody!!!

This… could… work.
And reading an interview by Cody, she seems aware of many of the misgivings already:
“I wouldn’t have even gotten involved if Sam [Raimi] and Bruce Campbell hadn’t been involved as well, they’re producing it, and so of course I was like “Alright I have to do this” because I’m such a fan of the original, and the whole original series in fact. But I was nervous to take the job because I thought “Ugh, I’m gonna get shit for this. People are not gonna like this, because all people know of me is like Juno and they think I’m gonna pollute EVIL DEAD with like wacky dialogue and cute stuff and folk music, and it’s like “No, look I understand what this is. I’m interested in storytelling here and making it scary and good and true to the original.”
So, between this and the trailer, while I agree with you about this remaining an unnecessary remake, Scott, I feel more optimistic than i did before…
I’m with ya, buddy!! I’m not an optimist by nature (I think of myself as a “realistic cynic”), but after seeing this trailer I’m actually kinda looking forward to seeing this one. Yes; we’ve all been burned by kick ass trailers before, but I’m locking away my typical cynicism for now!
