Fox Execs Are Trying to F**k Up the Sequel to Chronicle
If you pay at all attention to the way Hollywood works, they don’t like new things and new ideas. They like formulas and proven test markets. Don’t believe me? Then why the hell are remakes still so damn popular? Anyway; I now that the film CHRONICLE isn’t a horror film, but it was a fantastic film that tried to give us a more realistic portrayal of what might happen if some everyday, normal kids suddenly discovered they have super-human powers. There was no doubt that we’d see a sequel, and for good reason: CHRONICLE made an assload of cash and there’s definitely more elements in the story to examine. In fact, the original idea for CHRONICLE 2 was to explore the opposite of the first film. The original looks at the “creation” of the world’s first superheroes. The original plans for the sequel were to explore te origins of the first super villain. You may have noticed that i used the the word “were” … as in ‘past tense’ and ‘not happening now.’
In a recent interview with The Playlist, John Landis, father of Max Landis (the writer of CHRONICLE), updated us on the progress of CHRONICLE 2:
[Max] “wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want ‘Chronicle’ again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult; we’re dealing with a difficult business.”
Translation: Studio executives are total douchetards and obviously want to keep cranking out the same movie/plot/storyline over and over again. Just give us Max’s movie!!
Stay Bloody!!!
