DefTone Pictures Studios’ Announces A Grim Becoming
Have you ever heard of or read the 1983 novel, ON A PALE HORSE, by Piers Anthony? In it a man who’s about to pull the trigger and kill himself sees Death and shoots Death through the eyes thereby killing him. The man must now assume the role of Death and collect the souls of the recently departed. This plot of a mortal becoming Death has been around for some time and it looks like it’s back.
DefTone Pictures Studios has recently announced that they are working on a new feature film, the horror-comedy A GRIM BECOMING. The studio is shooting for a June 21, 2014, release date and the first details of the feature are right here:
DefTones’ CEO and founder Adam R. Steigert has begun work on A Grim Becoming with writer Janeen Avery. The story is a tale about a young, bitter executive who has the unfortunate experience of seeing a Grim Reaper at work. This sighting results in the man becoming a Reaper and having to explore his own conscience and the lengths he will go to get his own life back.
A Grim Becoming is the first story to come out of DefTone that has comedy as an element along with the studio’s usual horror theme. Steigert had this to say on the status of the project: “Yes, it is official. A Grim Becoming is my next feature film. I will be once again writing and directing the story. I am very excited about this project because A Grim Becoming will be something new and fresh to come out of our studio. The script and concept bring something exciting, and I’m sure that DefTone will be able to find the local talent and locations to bring it to life. I enjoy epic storytelling, and A Grim Becoming promises to be another good example of this.”
Filming on A Grim Becoming is set to start sometime in 2013. Official casting date(s) have not yet been set, but the announcement should come soon with anticipated dates being in April or May so look for more soon. In the meantime keep your eyes on the official DefTone Pictures Studios website.
I don’t know if this one can match the intensity and scope of Anthony’s ON A PALE HORSE, but time will tell!!
Stay Bloody!!!

Oh.My.Fucking.Word! I’ve read all the books in that series…more than once! It’s a really cool series…although it’s definitely not “horror.”
I’m glad to hear you say that!! I thought I was just being cynical, but I thought this story didn’t sound very “horror-ish”. Sounds like it’s gonna be a lame sitcom-like film.
Definitely not horror… but it is a good story. However, who knows what will be left of it after movie producers get a hold of it. For the record though, the books are worth a read.
Good to know, AlienRed Queen!!
