Doom 4 Gets Tossed & Then Reinvented for Next Gen Consoles
DOOM. The very name fills me with great memories of that 1993 first-person shooter game where you travel through the bowels of Hell to try and save humanity itself. I spent many many many many many many hours playing DOOM 1 & 2. Hell; I bet I could’ve finished grad school one or two years sooner if I never discovered the DOOM games!! What’s so amazing about the first two DOOMS? There’s no missions. You don’t collect gold coins. There’s no goal (other than surviving). The point of DOOM is to walk around and shoot the shit outta anything that isn’t you!! It’s violent, it’s bloody, it’s gory, and it’s juicy. I love the fuck out of this game!!
I must admit that I was a little disappointed with DOOM 3. Don’t get me wrong; there’s still a lot of blood, guts, and gore, but there’s not missions to go on. They kind of changed the spirit of the DOOM games. But that’s okay because it’s still a lot of fun.
If you’re like me you’ve been wondering when the hell DOOM 4 would drop. Well there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that there will indeed be a DOOM 4 coming … eventually. The bad news is that it’s gonna take more time. Bethesda, the company behind the DOOM games, has announced that they will be scrapping their earlier version of DOOM 4 and will be reinventing it for next gen consoles. Why? They thought the content they had was not up to quality standards that were expected of it by DOOM fans. Im assuming that means they didn’t think it was bloody, gory, and violent enough!!
“An earlier version of Doom 4 did not exhibit the quality and excitement that Id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect. As a result, Id refocused its efforts on a new version of Doom 4 that promises to meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise. When we’re ready to talk about the Doom 4 Id is making, we will let folks know,” stated Bethesda’s VP of marketing and public relations Pete Hines.
