Screen Shot 2013-10-04 at 4.57.34 PMAMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN is literally right around the corner and the PR machine is in high gear.  But seriously … who the hell isn’t looking forward to this show!!  AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN is of course the third season of the popular creepfest and this season looks as though it’s gonna top the last two seasons.  The show premiers on October 9, 2013 on FX, just five short days away.  So check out a few new teasers, some new images, and the opening title sequence that’s full of creepy ass images.  I went through the entire thing in slow motion.  It’s damn good!!

As is the AMERICAN HORROR STORY tradition, the title sequence packs in a boatload of imagery that offers little in the way of explanation but works overtime to creep out the viewer.

Also within the minute-long sequence, we get a gang of woods-dwellers who look like they could be Klansmen, but probably aren’t.  (But then again, maybe they are!  Executive producer Tim Minear revealed at the Television Critics Assn. press tour this summer that the series shifts through time, and newcomer Kathy Bates plays Madame LaLaurie, a Louisiana socialite who became notorious for the torture and murder of black slaves.)  Then there’s a voodoo doll, some type of half-human, half-goat type creature, and what appears to be the results of a super-primitive facial surgery.

Are anyone else’s nipple hard just thinking about this season?!??

Here’s a video I found that compiles all the various teasers that have run for AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN.  Even if you’ve seen all the early teasers, watch this video.  Some of the ones at the end of the clip are extremely telling and downright scary.  I’m getting a SUSPIRIA vibe and a huge voodoo vibe from COVEN.  For season two I was patient and recorded the entire season and then watched it all in one looooong night.  I don’t think I’m going to be able to hold out for this season!!  Check out all the teasers in this video:

Besides the creepy factor, it looks like the writers are amping up the sexiness in this one!!  I love Lange’s line to her students:

“You girls need to learn to fight.  When witches don’t fight, we burn.”

Tell me your thoughts on this upcoming season.  Here’s a new image of a naked black man with a bunch of pins sticking in him.  Another voodoo reference?

TODAY - Season 61

Now dig on some random stills.  What do you think?

Stay Bloody!!!

Just finished watching the first season. I am little bit disappointed with the last episode. I have a feeling that the writers didn’t really know how to end the story. That being said I absolutely loved the rest of show. Great characters, great story, great effect, generally great everything. Really looking forward to Season 2’s story and obviously COVEN which I have heard many positive things about.

Just finished season 2! Ahh binge watching is fun. Season 2 was not quite as good as the first season. The story lines were a bit to busy. Aliens, Nazi war criminal, serial killer, angel of death and a possessed chick all in a corrupt mental asylum; lots and lots going on. Season 1 defiantly had a tighter focus. Also how can you have a possessed chick and aliens in the same story and not have them meet. There should be some kind of law against that kind of story telling! I demand a serious exorcism movie with aliens in in damn it! At least that would breath a little life into that tired genre. The power of nerds compels it!

All of this being said is still a bloody good story. Great characters and acting all round, fun setting and the last episode seemed much tighter than the first season as well. Thoroughly enjoyed it, can’t wait for COVEN! :)

      • Believe it or not I never watched the entire 1st season. Shit kept coming up & then my DVR dumped like half the season 1 shows I had recorded. But I agree with you … season 2 had waaaaay too many things going on in it. I thought the 2nd season suffered from Twin Peaks-itis: after the demon was exorcised in the asylum, it seemed the entire season lost steam (just like Twin Peaks went downhill after Laura Palmer’s death was solved).

Coven is good, but as the season progresses there’s a lot of problems with it.

Well just finished watching season 3. It was still very good and maybe I’m just being cynical here but I did not think it packed as much of a punch as the first 2 seasons. This season seemed to have a lot of story threads that seemed to just end very abruptly. Season 2 started doing that as well but it just felt more pronounced in this season. Also what was up with Zoe? She was built up as such an important character in the first 3 or 4 episodes and then just forgotten about for the rest of the season. Also I called that Cordelia would be the next Supreme very early in about 3 or 4 episodes. Shame really I was kind of rooting for Nan, she was pretty awesome – again rather abrupt exit.

Still an enjoyable enough story with some fairly decent characters though, bit sad about Misty Day but we can’t have happy endings all the time! Also loving Jessica Lange at the moment. She just seems to have so much fun in whatever role she does. I heard she’s decided to leave after season 4, which is a shame as she has become by far my favorite actor on the show.

Here’s hoping that season 4 will get back to it’s tightly focused, hard hitting root and give her a kick ass story to go out on! But what am I going to binge watch now? :'(

Oh yes and I’m really loving how AMERICAN HORROR STORY does their villains. A lot of them can be sort of sympathetic, creating this very sort of morally grey area. Best type of villian to have I think, keeps every character very interesting! :P

      • Agreed about Jessica Lange. She had a great time in her role and it showed. Coven lost me when they started killing off & resurrecting all the characters. I was hoping to see more strong female characters, but they really weren’t all the strong!!

I enjoyed season 3 but was also very disappointed.
