Get a Sneak Peak of RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH VOL. 1 at the BUFFALO DREAMS FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL
Can you believe that Troma Films is 40 years old?? That’s 40 years of keeping the indie horror scene on it’s toes and pushing limits. One of favorite films from Troma was the classic 1986 flick CLASS OF NUKE ‘EM HIGH. This was, simply put, bat-shit crazy in every way. The story was looney, the f/x were disgusting and over the top, and everything was bound together by a high energy that rarely exists in genre films. I love everything about this film. This was followed up by two sequels in the early 90s that weren’t to bad. But now 27 years after the original CLASS OF NUKE ‘EM HIGH we’re getting another follow up, RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH. RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH is directed by none other than the daddy of Troma films, Lloyd Kaufman (who directed the original film under the name Samuel Weil), is written by Kaufman, Travis Campbell, and Derek Dressler (with additional material Casey Clapp and Aaron Hamel), and stars Asta Paredes, Catherine Corcoran, Zac Amico, Vito Trigo, Babette Bombshell, and Adam P. Murphy. Check out the plot crunch:
Return to the Class of Nuke ‘Em High follows a young couple that are up against the school glee club. Unfortunately, the glee club has mutated into a gang called The Cretins. When the other students begin to undergo mutations, our couple must solve the mystery and save Tromaville High School.
Now dig on the trailer:
There’s as of yet no date set for a North American release, but if you’re in upstate New York you’ll have a chance to see a special screening of it at the Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival. Check out the press release:
RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH VOL. 1 EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PREVIEW AT BUFFALO DREAMS FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL
An exclusive sneak-preview of 40 year-old Troma Entertainment’s Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1, directed by legendary auteur Lloyd Kaufman, will be held at Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival in Buffalo, New York on Saturday, November 9th at 9:30 pm at Dispon’s Amherst Theatre, 3500 Main Street. Kaufman will be present for a Q&A following the event. Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1 will begin U.S. theater distribution in January 2014. Kaufman will be honored with the festival’s Dedication to Excellence in Independent Filmmaking Award on Sunday, November 10th. Previous recipients of the award include Debbie Rochon and Roy Frumkes. Admission is only $8.00.
At Kaufman’s request, all proceeds from this exclusive preview will be donated to the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center (NACC), a 501(C)(3) non-for-profit organization in Niagara Falls, where much of Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1 was shot. Kaufman says “I am delighted to express my appreciation to the NACC and to return the generosity of the loving Niagara/Buffalo citizens that do so much to support independent art and Troma.”
“This is a coup for our festival,” says Buffalo Dreams co-director Gregory Lamberson. “Lloyd created The Toxic Avenger, a seminal film which has influenced a whole generation of mainstream filmmakers from Tarantino to Eli Roth to James Gunn. Genre fans are now waiting to see Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1 in order to discover what happens next in Tromaville. We get to preview the film and honor Lloyd Kaufman the same weekend.”
Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1 is a hilarious, thoughtful sci-fi Event Film with themes ripped straight from today’s headlines: the contamination and degradation of the world’s food supply, rampant bullying, LGBTQ love triumphing over prejudice and violence. The film is a revisiting of Troma’s 1986 cult Class of Nuke ‘Em High. Troma Entertainment is one of the longest-running independent movie studios in United States history and Kaufman’s body of work has been cited as influence by Peter Jackson, Quentin Tarantino, Takashi Miike, Eli Roth, and James Gunn just to name a few.
Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival will show over 80 movies from around the world Friday, November 8th – Thursday, November 14th. Visit www.buffalodreamsfilmfest.com for additional information.
