A few months ago news broke that THE X-FILES would be returning to TV sometime in the future. Who knew “the future” would be so soon?? THE X-FILES is of course the runaway hit paranormal/UFO series that ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. The show followed the exploits of FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Mulder was the believer and Scully was the skeptic. Together they battled various “monsters of the week” as well as investigated a continuing storyline about a massive government conspiracy concerning the existence of aliens, which abducted Mulder’s sister when they were kids.
It’s now thirteen years after the show aired its final episode and Fox is bringing back everyone’s favorite FBI partners. The new six-episode series will center on Mulder and Scully (duh), and Duchovny and Anderson are coming back to reprise their iconic roles. Let’s face it, there’s no way they could bring this show back without Duchovny and Anderson!! Series creator Chris Carter will again be in charge and Glen Morgan and James Wong, two of the original writers of the series, will also be back. Carter recently said that the revival will be comprised of both UFO mythology episodes and standalone “monster of the week” stories, just like the style of the original series.
News recently broke that the six new episodes will be shot this summer (summer 2015) and the first episode will premier on Sunday, January 24, 2016. That’s not a long wait at all!! The second episode will air the very next night on Monday, January 25, 2016. I’m most definitely an X-FILES geek and this is really exciting news. Other characters confirmed to appear on the reboot are FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and the mysterious Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis).
