New Horror Films Coming to Shudder March 2017

          March 1, 2017

Frailty (2001)  – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Directed by the great Bill Paxton and starring Paxton, Matthew McConaughey, and Powers Boothe, this is one film you don’t want to miss.

The Wicker Man (1973) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Directed by Robin Hardy and starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, and Diane Cilento. Don’t worry … Nick Cage is nowhere to be found!!

Reincarnation (2005)

Directed by Takashi Shimiz and starring Yûka, Karina, and Kippei Shîna. This is an effective little chiller.

Mulberry Street (2006)

Director Jim Mickle gives us one fantastic film. Mickle is stylish, yet he doesn’t sacrifice any substance. This is a really fun film!! This one stars Nick Damici, Kim Blair, and Ron Brice

The Creeping Terror (1964)  – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Directed by Vic Savage and starring Savage, Shannon O’Neil, and William Thourlby. You probably saw the MST3K crew skewer this one. I couldn’t imagine watching this one without the colorful jokes.

The House of 1000 Corpses (2003)

Director Rob Zombie’s first film that pays its respects to the films that influence Zombie the most. Stars Sid Haig, Karen Black, and Bill Mosely.

Undead (2003) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Directed by brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, this really fun zombie epic stars Felicity Mason, Mungo McKay, and Rob Jenkins. Subtle humor and fun gore make this one stand out.

Goal of the Dead – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Thierry Poiraud and Benjamin Rocher direct this zombie flick starring Alban Lenoir, Charlie Bruneau, and Tiphaine Daviot. This one is full of zombies and soccer hooligans!!

They Came Back (2004) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Robin Campillo directs this story of a bunch of dead filks coming back from the dead and how they try and reintegrate back into society. Stars Géraldine Pailhas, Jonathan Zaccaï, and Frédéric Pierrot.

Last Girl Standing (2015)

The tagline gives a better explanation than I could: “What happens to the final girl after the credits roll?” This one is director by Benjamin R. Moody and stars Akasha Villalobos, Danielle Evon Ploeger, and Brian Villalobos.

Director Jean Rollin’s cult classic starring Solange Pradel, Bernard Letrou, and Ariane Sapriel.

The Sadistic Baron Von Klaus (1962)

Cult-smut director Jesús Franco stars Ana Castor, Howard Vernon, and Paula Martel.

Slaughter Hotel ONLY ON SHUDDER

Director Fernando Di Leo lets Klaus Kinski chew up the scenery along with Margaret Lee, and Rosalba Neri.

Burial Ground (1981) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

This gore classic, directed by Andrea Bianchi, stars Karin Well, Gianluigi Chirizzi, and Simone Mattioli. Fun, fun times.

Zombie Holocaust (1980) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Also known as Dr. Butcher, M.D.: Medical Deviate, this one is directed by Marino Girolami and stars Ian McCulloch, Alexandra Delli Colli, and Sherry Buchanan.

Always Shine (2016) – A SHUDDER EXCLUSIVE

Female rivalry goes too far in this horror-thriller directed by Sophia Takal and starring Mackenzie Davis, Caitlin FitzGerald, and Lawrence Michael Levine.

Tattoo (1981)

Remember when only the fringes of society got tattoos? Check out director Bob Brooks’ chiller starring Bruce Dern, Maud Adams, and Leonard Frey.

The Asphyx (1972)

I love love love this film. Definitely has a slower pace, but director Peter Newbrook gives us a beautiful film that ponders the afterlife and how that could affect one’s current life. Starring Robert Powell, Robert Stephens, and Jane Lapotaire, this is a must see.

The Comeback (1978) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Director Pete Walker examines what happens to a songwriter with writer’s block. Things don’t go too well for him. Starring Jack Jones, Pamela Stephenson, and David Doyle.

Noriko’s Dinner Table (2005)

A runaway joins a cult and things go downhill rather quickly in this horror-drama directed by Sion Sono and starring Kazue Fukiishi, Tsugumi, and Yuriko Yoshitaka.

The Demoniacs (1974) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Sounds like The Asylum is spoofing Warner Bros. Animaniacs, but this is actually another one from soft-porn meister, Jean Rollin, and stars Joëlle Coeur, John Rico, and Willy Braque.

Apparently, Shudder has bought Jesús Franco’s library!! This one stars Anne Libert, Britt Nichols, and Doris Thomas, and you can pretty much figure out the rest.

The Heirloom (2005)  – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Man returns home. Man buys a house. House is haunted. Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Directed by Leste Chen and stars Terri Kwan, Jason Chang, and Chia-Hui Chang.

The Hills Have Eyes 2 (1985) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

A huge misfire for director Wes Craven!! Although, where else can you see a dog have a flashback?? Stars Robert Houston, David Nichols, and Virginia Vincent.

Fender Bende(2016) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

An innocent fender bender turns into a “thing” in director Mark Pavia’s film starring Cassidy Freeman, Mackenzie Vega, and Lora Martinez-Cunningham.

The Red Shoes (2006) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

Let this be a lesson to all you women out there. Never wear shoes found on a subway platform!! This one is directed by Yong-gyun Kim and stars Hye-su Kim, Seong-su Kim, and Yeon-ah Park.

Another from the classic sleaze director Jean Rollin. This one stars Alexandra Pic, Isabelle Teboul, and Bernard Charnacé.

A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1973)  – ONLY ON SHUDDER

With three infamous sleaze directors, Jesús Franco, Jean Rollin, and Pierre Quérut, how could this not be a sleaze-fest? Stars Christina von Blanc, Britt Nichols, and Rosa Palomar.

This French classic sparked the French New Wave horror movement, and director Alexandre Aja has never been better. This one stars Cécile De France, Maïwenn, and Phillipe Nahon.

The Penalty (1920)

A deformed criminal plans revenge on the doctor who took his legs in this film directed by Wallace Worsley and starring Charles Clary, Doris Pawn, and Jim Mason.

Play Motel (1979) – ONLY ON SHUDDER

What do you get when a string of deaths occur at a sleazy motel? You get Play Motel, directed by Mario Gariazzo and starring Ray Lovelock, Anna Maria Rizzoli, and Mario Cutini.

The Midnight Meat Train (2008)  – ONLY ON SHUDDER

This fantastic film version of the classic Clive Barker short story with the same name, is directed by Ryûhei Kitamura and stars Vinnie Jones, Bradley Cooper, and Leslie Bibb.

Pretty amazing selection from this month alone, eh.
