Horror fans everywhere are simultaneously exhaling a sigh of relief that the Hellraiser remake is still in development Hell and that there is no plans in the immediate future to move forward with it. This will be short and sweet. Dimension is still spinning its wheels on the Hellraiser remake. Later this year, Dimension will release Hellraiser: Judgment direct to video. This one is written and directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe and stars Nightmare on Elm Street alum, Heather Langenkamp. Here’s the plot crunch:
HA!! Just kidding. Who gives a s**t what this one is about. The only reason Dimension is cranking this one out is so they can retain the rights to the franchise. But all the rumors of Clive Barker himself working on the remake are unfounded. The bottom line is that there is no plan to remake Hellraiser.
On a side note, Clive Barker wasn’t just connected to the remake, he wrote the freakin’ screenplay!! But the last time Barker heard any kind of update on the remake was back on Halloween 2014. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Barker noted that his “reboot” would be located
on Devil’s Island. I wanted to fold into the Hellraiser narrative something about the guy—the Frenchman Lemarchand—who made the mysterious box, which raises Pinhead. I figured, ‘Well, what would have happened to him?’ He might well have been taken to Devil’s Island and I thought that would be a pretty cool place to start the movie.”
Barker turned in the second draft of the screenplay to Bob Weinstein, the head of Dimension, and was waiting to hear back from him. He never heard anything back.
