I’ve been hearing about Ti West’s THE INNSKEEPERS for a while now, but it looks like it’s finally happening. The official trailer for West’s latest film is here. Now I’m not gonna pretend to be all excited about this one. I’ve been burned before by a Ti West film (pretty badly as a matter of fact), so I’m pretty hesitant about this one. I hated West’s debut feature, THE ROOST (2005), but to be fair that was his first film. Ya can’t judge a filmmaker by his or her debut feature. Then there’s HOUSE OF THE DEVIL (2009). which almost put me to sleep. I hated HOUSE OF THE DEVIL (my review here) and thought it played out more like an extended pizza commercial. The only film of his that I enjoyed so far is CABIN FEVER 2: SPRING FEVER (my review here). This was fast-paced, gory as hell, and just a lot of fun. And guess what? West hates this film and has completely disowned it. Whatever.
Here’s the plot summary:
After over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees -Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy) – are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England’s most haunted hotels. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history.
Sounds like your standard ghost story, but I’m game. I think Ti West has a good eye and captures some really interesting shots. Here’s the trailer:
Looks promising. I’m definitely gonna be checking it out. In the words of detective Ray Cameron, “Thrill me!” THE INNSKEEPERS will be available On Demand on December 30, 2011 and will be in theaters February 3, 2012. Check out THE INNSKEEPERS website for more information.
