What’s that, you say? You miss the good old giant creature flicks from the 50’s and 60’s? Well this is your lucky day. According to Undead Backbrain, writer-director Michael Peterson is ready to unleash a gigantic, mosquito-like alien on earth … INSECTULA!! Here’s the plot crunch:
A giant alien mosquito-type insect is drawn to earth from the CO2 pollution in search of blood. Del, a government agent, loses loved ones to the creature and is on a personal vendetta while the Dr. Kempler is captivated by it and attempts to help the creature cleanse the earth.
The film is going to have that throwback-retro look to it and will be a blending of practical and CGI f/x (in order to keep the budget down). But even though this is gonna have that retro-look to it, don’t expect a tongue-in-cheek homage to the creature features of yesteryear. This won’t be a satire or SCARY MOVIE-like comedy aimed at 50’s and 60’s giant creature flick. This is a film greatly influenced by that genre. Just look at some of the stills of INSECTULA and tell me this one doesn’t look friggin’ cool!! And below, check out the trailer and early clip, but BE WARNED: The f/x work in the trailer and clip are “early-stage” effects and Peterson assures us that he’s gotten “much better” since the trailer and the footage from the clip was shot.

That looks friggin’ fantastic!! Now check out an early clip from the film:
Rockin’ good fun!! You can read an interview with writer-director Peterson here. From the looks of these you videos and the various stills, I’m really looking forward to this one. As you’ll see below, INSECTULA even has zombies!! What do you all think?
